Today, we are celebrating our Senior Payroll and HR Administrator, Carole Donaldson, for having worked at David Allen for 20 years!
We sat down with Carole and asked her some questions about her time at David Allen to mark the occasion.
What roles have you done within the business and tell us about your progression path?
I was always brought in to Administrate HR. The other work was to help out and supplement the HR work. I also did the record keeping of sheep and cattle for David when he started farming, which I have just recently passed on the Alice and Alanah.
How has David Allen changed since you started 20 years ago, and what do you think was the driver in the company getting bigger?
It was much smaller than now. When I started we had 25 staff members working in the David Allen Accountants and Financial Services. Since joining, we have grown and added many more departments. Our Dalston Head Office has also grown, when I started we were just one side of our current building and some of the offices were rented out to other local businesses, it is fantastic to now have five offices and over 150 team members.
Can you share some stand out moments during your time at David Allen?
Quite a few years ago maybe 15 or so, I attended a tug of war competition to raise money for charity, we were head to head against other local firms. We ended up winning the entire competition, it was really exciting to see our team do so well and raise so much money for Children in Need.
Over my time here, I also used to do all the flower arrangements for the David Allen stand at Dalston Show, it was lovely to see my work on display and I was proud to be able to support the company with a passion of mine too.
What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
The people. Helping people and working with great colleagues, I guess that’s why I am suited to HR.
What drives you to do what you do and what motivates you?
Making a difference each day at a time and working to make sure things run smoothly.
What is the top benefit of working in #TeamDA?
The flexibility and chance to grow. I’ve worked in Credit Control, Administration and Payroll and it is great to have experienced such a variation in my work.
What programs have David Allen put in place to help employees grow in their careers?
A nurturing environment is provided to support people who have the drive to do something if they set their mind to it. You can fill your boots. David Allen lets you try to attain anything you want within the boundaries of the company.
