Our client, Lloyd Ltd have multiple sites across different locations in both England and Scotland and were struggling with slow and unreliable internet connections. They had legacy networking equipment that was outdated and not able to keep up with the demands of their growing business.
As a result, employees were frequently experiencing slow internet speeds and dropped connections, which impacted their productivity and ability to serve customers. They also had multiple internet connections from different providers and found it difficult to reconcile costs.
Technical challenges:
Lloyd Ltd have multiple locations, each with its own legacy networking equipment, which made it challenging to manage and troubleshoot issues.
Lloyd Ltd had also outgrown its existing internet connections at several sites, which were unable to keep up with the increased demand for bandwidth. As a result, employees were experiencing slow internet speeds, which impacted their ability to access both internal and cloud-based applications.
Solutions:
As Lloyd Ltd’s IT provider, David Allen IT Solutions proposed to replace the legacy networking equipment and upgrade the internet connections at all of its sites to improve visibility, reliability and speed. We worked with Lloyd Ltd to design the new networking infrastructure.
The first step was to conduct a site survey at each location to determine the exact current network infrastructure and identify areas for improvement. David Allen IT developed a comprehensive plan for each site, which included the replacement of legacy routers, switches and wireless access points, the installation of new leased line internet connections, and the implementation of modern network management tools.
David Allen IT replaced the networking equipment with Ubiquiti network switches and wireless access points and also adopted each of these into our cloud based controller for excellent management capabilities. This provides David Allen IT with the ability to monitor each of the sites, and provide:
- Analysis on which devices are connecting to the network
- Analysis on how much bandwidth is being used on the network by devices
- Segregation to secure the company network using VLAN’s
- Guest network to provide customers with the ability to access the internet
- Bandwidth restrictions as required
- Full monitoring and security patching of the wired and wireless networks
To upgrade the internet connections, David Allen IT worked with multiple internet service providers to identify the best solutions and most cost effective for each of the sites, which was also based on location. David Allen IT and the ISP recommended Ethernet leased lines to replace the current MPLS connectivity. This solution not only meets the needs of the business currently but will also be able to allow them to grow in the future.
Results:
The upgrade of the network infrastructure and internet connections resulted in significant improvements in visibility, reliability, and speed. Employees no longer experienced slow internet speeds or dropped connections, which improved their productivity and ability to serve customers. David Allen IT are able to troubleshoot issues more quickly and proactively identify potential problems before they impact the business.
The cloud-based network management solution provided real-time visibility into the network, which allows David Allen IT to be more proactive in managing the network. The solution also provided analytics and reporting capabilities, which allowed the department to identify areas of improvement and optimize the network for better performance.
The solution with all the connectivity billed through David Allen IT solution allows Lloyd Ltd to have visibility and control over their costs, with all costs transparent on a single invoice.
Conclusion:
The upgrade of the network infrastructure and internet connections was a significant undertaking for the Lloyd Ltd, but it resulted in vast improvements in visibility, reliability, and speed. The company was able to improve the productivity of its employees, which allowed it to better serve its customers.
The work was completed out of hours at weekends, and although the project was very complex there was virtually no down time to Lloyd Ltd during the migration of all their equipment and connectivity.
