Alison Philips, Operations Manager for Cumbria CVS, explains how David Allen IT Solutions migrated their IT infrastructure from their old provider and now provide on-going IT support and maintenance.
Cumbria CVS (Cumbria Council for Voluntary Service) is a charitable organisation offering help, advice, training, and support to third sector groups throughout Cumbria. We have offices in Carlisle and Barrow-in-Furness, but during the long Covid-19 period we had staff operating from home all across the county.
Following a stringent tender process, we chose David Allen IT Solutions to complete the cloud migration of the network infrastructure from our existing providers and provide on-going IT support and maintenance.
Following a full and detailed review of our IT requirements, Director Gary Martin, was able to provide recommendations to us for our new IT infrastructure and how to optimise the use of technology for the organisations business performance.
The aim of the migration was to house as many services in the cloud as possible, to provide greater access for staff to all systems whilst working remotely or in the office and to have access to an efficient IT support team.
Microsoft 365 was chosen as the main business platform, and a migration to the Modern Workspace solution was provided, giving secure access to files for collaboration from any location utilising Microsoft Teams sites & Microsoft SharePoint. Email and calendar data was migrated from within a shared 365 tenant to Cumbria CVS’s own tenant.
Business Applications, such as Sage were converted to run as Remote App’s on a Microsoft Azure Remote Desktop Server infrastructure, allowing seamless access from any location. This was been particularly important over the Covid-19 period where the majority of our staff had been operating from home.
All laptops & PC’s were migrated from the old infrastructure to the cloud based Modern Workspace environment and were connected to Azure Active Directory.
Consultancy was provided by planning the configuration of the network at both offices, securing high speed internet connectivity, and including recommendations for the network cabling layout and specifications. A fully managed network router and switch that delivers robust performance was installed along with wireless access points enabling staff and guest Wi-Fi.
An IT support contract provides assistance for us should we require it, along with strategic advice and guidance for future requirements as the organisation grows.
