This year marks 40 years since the Falklands War. Between April and mid-June this year, all over Britain, there are commemorations of the war and the role played by our military after Argentine troops invaded and captured the British Falklands Islands.
A Task Force comprising of a fleet of over 100 ships, including 2 aircraft carriers and 33,000 military personnel, several Vulcan bombers, traveled 8,000 miles to the Falkland Islands.
The 74-day war was intense and brutal. Peace and freedom were restored to the Falkland Islands.
Our Group IT Manager, Colin Simons’ wife Rachel was brought up in Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands. Rachel was living there in 1982 when the war started. Rachel says ‘No child should ever live through a war, and I was so grateful for the day that the guns fell silent, and peace and freedom was restored to our beautiful island home.
I am now living in Carlisle and work with a small committee to arrange the Falklands 40 commemorations in our city. These events will take place on the 14 May 2022. We have a parade, wreath laying, and service of remembrance planned for the afternoon. In the evening we are having a formal meal in the Station Hotel for around 180 veterans, their wives and partners, and several local dignitaries. The evening will be a culmination of a very special day that remembers a huge achievement.’
David Allen IT Solutions are proud to be able to assist with sponsorship of this fantastic event.
