This month marks 30 years of our Director, Gary Martin starting his career in IT. 

In July 1991, Gary left Carlisle College having completed his BTEC National Diploma in Computer Studies.  After a brief spell at Staffordshire University Gary embarked on his IT career, first starting work with Cumbria County Council in the IT department, before moving to an independent IT support company Criffel Systems, in Dumfries.

Having worked through the ranks at Criffel Systems for a number of years, Gary started a successful IT business in Carlisle alongside Robin Brown and Tony Higgins of SP Training.  Gary joined David Allen IT Solutions as Director in 2014 and since then the business has continued to grow and add real value to the customers it supports.

Gary’s career has been based around delivering excellent customer service and IT support to many hundreds of local businesses.  Gary says, “I am immensely proud of David Allen IT solutions, and the team we have here.  We try our very best to deliver the best solutions for the companies we support and deliver those solutions to the best of our ability.  We strive to be the best in class IT provider in the area and be the best employer to the staff we have.  It’s simply a great place to work, with a great atmosphere, delivering great technology solutions.  30 years is a long time to spend in IT, so much has changed particularly in recent years and the pace of change in IT is extremely fast.  At David Allen IT we move quickly and adapt to change.  It’s amazing to be part of such a dynamic business.”

Gary’s son is following the IT path, as he starts that very same BTEC course in September, all be it updated a lot from 30 years ago!  Gary added, “It is wonderful that my son has the same passion for IT as I do, Carlisle College is a real asset to our city bringing quality training and apprenticeships in IT to Cumbria.”
