Are you confident that your bills are covered if you were to suffer an injury leaving you unable to work? If the answer is no, then it may be worthwhile reviewing your protection options.
It is standard practice to prioritise your large debts, typically your mortgage, when it comes to protection in the event of your death or critical illness, but what about your day-to-day expenses if you suffered an injury? For example, if you play football this weekend and sustain an injury, will you be able to pay your monthly bills?
We recently spoke with one of our clients, Tommy Muir, who successfully received a claim pay out, after unfortunately fracturing a bone in his foot. Tommy plays semi-professional football on a part time basis, but his full-time day job is a fully qualified joiner.
Following a recommendation from a friend, Tommy spoke with our Financial Services protection adviser, Hayley Towlson, as he wanted to know if he could protect his income should he be unable to work.
Hayley conducted a full comprehensive review of Tommy’s circumstances and what his financial needs would be, it soon became clear that the likelihood of Tommy sustaining an injury, due to his part-time football employment, was much more likely than your average Joe. Hayley therefore explained the implications of whether Tommy could continue to work as a joiner and be paid if say, he broke his leg playing football on a Saturday.
For many people employed in the ‘Trade’, employee benefits such as extended sick pay is very unlikely. Hayley therefore sourced quotes to help pay Tommy’s bills should he sustain an injury. After an extensive search of the market, suitable cover was sourced and placed ‘on risk’ on 8 March 2021.
Whilst the main priority of the insurance was to help pay Tommy’s bills in the event of his inability to continue working, Hayley sourced cover that included a lump sum pay out should Tommy specifically sustain a fracture, and sure enough just two months later during a training session, Tommy broke a bone in his foot and is now unable to work during the healing process. Hayley and the team contacted the insurer on Tommy’s behalf and not only did they accept his claim for the income protection, but also paid out a lump sum of £1,000.00 for the fracture. Tommy was able to ‘kick back’ and let the healing process ‘kick in’ whilst maintaining peace of mind he wouldn’t be financially worse off.
Tommy was delighted with the help the team provided, adding that he would recommend Hayley and our services to his friends and family!
Protection reviews by Hayley are completely free, and even if you are already covered, does your cover offer lump sum pay outs in the event of fractures? You don’t have to be a semi-professional sportsperson to qualify for this; perhaps you just like to have a kick about on a Sunday with your friends; either way, a free review with Hayley is likely to enlighten you to what you could insure.
