A born and bred dairy farmer’s daughter and married to a dairy farmer and contractor since 2016, I wanted to pursue my passion and join an Agricultural team in a local accountancy firm. #TeamDA has such strong values for supporting local and that’s where I believe I can add value to our clients. It only goes to show the cows outside our head office in Dalston, that farmers are important to us, no matter how big or small.
The initial conversation with my clients is usually being interrogated about who I am and from what farm, ‘Graham’ farmers’ are particularly common around the Wigton area! However, it is as important for you to understand my background as it is for me to know yours in order to build up trust between one another so I can ensure we give you the best possible service.
I joined David Allen in August 2019 as a Chartered Accountant and joining a firm where clients are looked after and given outstanding service was important to me. Also knowing their background and how supportive they are, especially to with those with young families, I knew it was a place I wanted to work.
Farmers never have an easy ride. This can be seen in the last 18 months or so, with milk prices seeing record highs (which was short lived) but also the impact of soaring fertiliser and fuel prices. Farmers never cease to amaze me, being totally resilient and looking for new ways to overcome the problems they face. We are currently seeing lots of diversification projects in the local area to counteract the loss of subsidies. Projects I really enjoy being able to support and just show how farmers always have to be willing to adapt to change.
I have built an excellent reputation in the rural community and bring a wealth of knowledge to the David Allen Agri team. Having been brought up on a farm and now being married to a farmer, I understand the industry and have first-hand experience of some of the problems that my clients often face. Farming really is in the blood and as I have two young farming mad boys, they are what we keep working hard for. Succession is so important to us and the farming industry in particular.
