Meet Donna Wilson, our mortgage and protection specialist bringing clear, concise, and just plain easy service to the Dumfries High Street.

In line with our NO MORTGAGE FEE FOR APRIL offer, we decided to ask our new starter, Donna Wilson, some questions and really get to know about her and her experience, and what exactly she plans to bring to the mortgage and protection world in Dumfries.

How did you get into your current role?

After 16 years in the banking industry, where I specialised in assessing individual client needs and circumstances to provide bespoke mortgage advice, it seemed only right that I would branch out and offer this in a ‘whole of market’ environment.

I loved my time at the bank, but being tied in to just one set of products was quite restrictive, and to really offer my clients the service I wanted to I knew there was only one route to go down; whole of market.

A lot of customers would come to me for mortgage needs, but it’s also my job to ensure they realise the importance of establishing their protection requirements alongside this.  I therefore discuss life & critical illness cover with each customer, to ultimately provide peace of mind if anything untoward should happen to them.

I am passionate about helping local people, both face to face and on the telephone, to get to know them, truly understand their needs and establish long lasting relationships.

What made you want to work for David Allen Financial Services?

Whilst networking during my previous role at the Bank, I met Amy Muirhead, our Dumfries Manager, from David Allen Accountants.  We established a great relationship and then, upon meeting the other people at David Allen I found them all to be friendly, professional, and forward thinking.  I love the fact that they hold the local client aspirations and needs at the heart of what they do, and they recognise the importance of the local values as a priority.

What can you bring to clients that others can’t?

I am most excited that by working at David Allen Financial Services I will be able to access “whole of market products” for my clients’ mortgage and protection needs.  My goal is to be the ‘go to’ on the Dumfries high street for any mortgage and protection enquiry, whether you are a First Time Buyer, wanting to move home, would like extra borrowing, or even just want to see if you can save a few pennies!

I find that most Banks’ these days will take your mortgage enquiry but then pass you over the call centre, and the face-to-face service we once all cherished has long gone.  I want to bring that back to my clients and in turn give them a friendly and professional experience by helping them with every step of their mortgage process, keeping them informed throughout.

What do you like most about working with clients?

There is no greater feeling than helping customers achieve their goals and taking any stress away to make the process as smooth as possible!  Mortgages and house purchasing/house moving can be the most stressful time in peoples’ lives, and its up to your broker to put your mind at ease and make it as quick and painless as possible, with absolutely no jargon.

My clients tell me I am approachable, friendly, and honest, and to receive this sort of feedback only just spurs me on to get even more of the same!

Tell us something about you as a person

I live in a village just outside Dumfries with my husband and two grown up children.  I enjoy village life and I am happy in my walking boots taking my dog on long walks!

I play badminton and enjoy swimming both of which have been curtailed due to Covid.

I love the Greek islands – the food, the people, the heat and very much enjoy holidaying there.
