Having spent over 17 years’ at the firm, Alison Welton, Managing Partner, can certainly share the inside scoop of what it is like to work for local Accountancy and Business Services firm, David Allen
I joined David Allen in 2004, back then there were just 25 members of staff, many of whom I am still working alongside today. I had just qualified as a Chartered Accountant with a practice in Sunderland, however I decided I wanted to move back home to Cumbria, and I knew that David Allen was the place where I wanted to develop my career.
It was a very easy decision to join David Allen, their ethos, innovation, client care and investment in staff were above and beyond. They were the factors that initially drew me to the firm, and are the same reasons I have been here for over 17 years’ and the same factors that make me immensely proud of the firm I work within.
Naturally, being somewhere a significant amount of time, you witness change, development and growth, but the amazing opportunities for the team working across the David Allen group, I believe to be extraordinary. Looking at my own career as an example, I was supported, developed and my specialisms nurtured, to then be appointed Partner in 2008 and Managing Partner in 2019. Of course, that involves dedication and hard work, but the significant investment in my career from my senior team enabled that progression to happen.
I may be biased, but I believe our people really are the best. The best at what they do and the best at how they do it. As a company we pride ourselves on being people focused and we offer an abundance of perks such as flexitime, complimentary financial advice, a pension scheme, and recognition awards to name just a few, but we really raise the bar in terms of development and training. That could be anything from an online webinar or evening classes, to support through an apprenticeship scheme and professional qualifications.
At David Allen we invest a huge amount into supporting the emerging youth, especially through Apprenticeships. Every year we recruit school leavers into the practice and they begin a training program. For those training in our accounts and tax department they can train through the AAT (Association of Accounting Technician) or ATT (Association of Taxation Technicians) qualification. The training is provided by external organisations including Carlisle College and Kaplan at Newcastle. Joining at this level allows them to continue to develop their skills, whilst working and getting paid. We also provide a mentor who works alongside them to ensure they are wholly supported and reaching their full potential.
We recruit and train individuals across all of our offices at Dalston, Penrith, Workington and Dumfries and have various roles available, the future at David Allen really is boundless.
We are always receptive to people proactively wanting to enquire about a career within #TeamDA, so whilst we have roles advertised here, if there isn’t one that fits the bill, I’d certainly recommend just giving us a call or dropping us an email. Our HR team are on 01228 711888 or email recruitment@david-allen.co.uk – we would be delighted to hear from you.
