Tracing debtors is different from locating other individuals, as the debtors are usually trying to stay under the radar for the obvious reason, that they owe money and do not plan to pay it.

There are several things that debtors will do to avoid being found.  These include going off-grid or denying that they are the subject when questioned.  They may use their partner’s or family member’s name, so that they can avoid being detected.

Having the correct address is vital, as all communication and letters before action, need to be posted to the correct address.  This is also the case when issuing proceedings for debt recovery and is required by the court so that the debtor in question has the opportunity to place a defence to the litigation action.

When instructing a debt recovery service, the following information regarding a debtor will always be useful:

• Debtor’s full names including middle names
• Debtor’s date of birth
• Debtor’s partners names
• Debtor’s last known address
• Debtor’s other addresses
• Debtor’s telephone numbers even if disconnected
• Debtor’s mobile phone numbers
• Debtor’s email address
• Debtor’s work details
• Debtor’s website or business website
