Today we are celebrating our Managing Director and Independent Financial Adviser, Steve Balmer, for having worked at David Allen for 10 years!

Steve’s positivity, enthusiasm and commitment to the David Allen firm is second to none.

Steve Balmer, Managing Director and Independent Financial Adviser, joined David Allen Financial Services in March 2012 and has now been in the industry for over 20 years.  He is married to Helen and has two boys and a Shitzu.

Steve describes what drew him to work for David Allen 10 years ago:

‘The colour, the energy and the professionalism of the company, and one that matched my own ambitions in delivering an amazing customer experience.

There were significant changes in the world of the financial advice sector at the time, and I felt the chance to work within a proactive local accountancy practice complemented these.

After joining the firm in 2012 as an Independent Financial Adviser, I was made Managing Director in 2015.  Since then, we have grown the team and diversified our services to include Mortgage, Wills, and Corporate Protection advice, alongside the Pension and Investment advice I was brought in to provide.’

We asked Steve to take part in a Q&A:

What is your job title and what are your main responsibilities?

Managing Director and Independent Financial Adviser.  To grow and develop the business, and to assist my clients with their financial affairs, providing them with peace of mind.

How did you get into Financial Services?

My Mum saw an advert in the local newspaper for a job in Financial Services.  It initially involved collecting monthly insurance policy premiums and advising on general branch insurance.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

Meeting people.

What do you feel most proud of in your life to date?

The amazing circle of friends and family I have.

What drives you to do what you do?  What motivates you?

I am motivated to help people and leave a lasting positive impression on them.

If you could trade lives with one person for an entire day, who would it be and why?

Boris Johnson, just to see what happens in his normal day running the country.

What is your strongest personal quality?

What is the first piece of advice you would give to someone starting their career in Financial Services?

That the customer only thinks you have one customer, them.

What is the highlight of your career at David Allen?

What roles have you done within the business and tell us about your progression path?

I started as an Independent Financial Adviser and then combined this with the role of Managing Director in 2016.

What drives you to do what you do/what motivates you?

I don’t like letting people down and I have a desire to have a positive impact on everyone I encounter, be that family, friends, clients or a colleague.

What is the top perk of working in #TeamDA?

Any new idea and change can be implemented quickly, without having to get it signed off by several tiers of bureaucracy, which was the case in my previous roles.

If you didn’t work at David Allen, what would you like to be doing?

Teaching and training children about the importance of finances.
